Jackson leads way for surging Storm

Lauren Jackson and the streaking Seattle Storm overpowered the lowly San Antonio Silver Stars.

The Australian star, in the headlines recently after posing nude for an Australian magazine, scored 27 points to help the Storm (8-2) extend their winning streak to six games with a 74-61 victory Saturday night.

She was 10 of 15 from the field, hitting both of her 3-point attempts, and went 5 of 6 from the line in her 100th WNBA game.

Fever 70, Liberty 65: Tamika Catchings had 25 points and 12 rebounds – both season highs – to lead Indiana past visiting New York.

It was Catchings’ first double-double of the season and the 24th of her career. She was 8 of 16 from the field, including 4-of-8 shooting from 3-point range, and made all five of her free throws.

Kelly Miller added 10 points for the Fever (6-4).

Elena Baranova scored 18 points, and Crystal Robinson 17 for New York (6-5).

Lynx 66, Comets 58: Katie Smith scored 22 points to help Minnesota snap a two-game losing streak with a win over visiting Houston. Tamika Williams added 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Lynx (5-5). Sheryl Swoopes, slowed by a sore right ankle, led the Comets (6-6) with 18 points, and Michelle Snow scored 14.

Shock 84, Monarchs 74: Swin Cash scored a career-high 29 points, helping defending WNBA champion Detroit win in Sacramento, the Shock’s fifth straight victory.

Cash scored on a variety of shots in the second half, when she had 17 points and the Shock (6-3) pulled away from struggling Sacramento (3-7).
