Moscow summer theater opens season with ‘My Way’
The Idaho Repertory Theatre in Moscow opens its 51st season today with the Chairman of the Board, and will end it with Kyle from “Melrose Place.”
That meaning, respectively, Frank Sinatra (his music, that is) and Rob Estes, the TV actor who starred on “Melrose Place,” “Suddenly Susan” and “Silk Stalkings.”
The Idaho Rep is a professional summer repertory theater that stages a rotating, four-show season. Three of the shows are in the Hartung Theatre on the Moscow campus. The other show is always a classic — in this case, “The Rivals” — performed on an outdoor stage near the theater.
Here’s this summer’s lineup:
• “My Way: A Musical Tribute to Frank Sinatra” — This musical revue features four singers who work their way through more than 40 songs associated with Ol’ Blue Eyes. Opens tonight and continues Friday, Saturday and July 1, 3, 18 and 20 at 7:30 p.m., plus a matinee on July 11 at 2 p.m.
• “You Can’t Take It With You,” by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart — The 1936 Pulitzer-winning comedy about the eccentric Sycamore family and their unusual, but good-hearted ways. Runs July 8-11, 13 and 21 at 7:30 p.m., with matinees on July 18 and 25 at 2 p.m.
• “The Rivals,” by Richard Brinsley Sheridan — The 1775 English comedy of manners poking fun at romance amongst the upper crust. It introduced Mrs. Malaprop to the world. Runs on the outdoor stage on July 16, 17 and 22-25 at 7:30 p.m. Festival seating; picnics are welcome and concessions are available. A Green Show (variety show) precedes at 6:30 p.m.
• “Same Time, Next Year,” by Bernard Slade — The 1975 comedy about a married (but not to each other) couple who meet in a motel room every year for 24 years. Estes plays George, and Kelly Quinnett of the UI theater faculty plays Doris in this two-person, one-set show. Runs July 27-31 at 7:30 p.m., plus two shows on Aug. 1 at 2 and 7:30 p.m.
Season tickets are $52 for adults, $44 for seniors and $28 for students and youth. Individual tickets are $15 for adults, $13 for seniors and $9 for students and youth. Matinees are $10 for adults and seniors and $5 for youth and students.

‘You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown’
The Looking Glass Theatre Company and Lionshead Productions, the Panida Theater’s new acting troupe and in-house production company, present the Charles Schulz-inspired musical “You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown” beginning Wednesday at the theater in Sandpoint.
This 1967 musical, revived on Broadway in 1999, has proven to be a hit with both kids and adults. It follows Charlie Brown through a typical day — funny, mortifying and heartwarming.
Rob Kincaid plays the role of Charlie Brown and is also the music director. Amy Craven plays Sally.
Jeff Poole plays Linus, and Shauna Lyman plays Snoopy and also choreographs. Andrea Lyman plays Lucy. Scott Johnson plays Schroeder and also directs.
A three-piece combo will provide musical accompaniment.
The show opens Wednesday and continues July 1-3 and 7-10. All shows are at 7:30 p.m., except a 7 p.m. start on July 3 to accommodate the fireworks display. Also, there will be 2 p.m. matinees both Saturdays in addition to the evening shows.
Tickets are $15 for adults, $9 for students and $6 for children, available at Eve’s Leaves, Pack River Potions, Eichardt’s Pub and Main Street Cafe in Sandpoint or online at www.sandpointonline.com.
