The Spokesman-Review

Lindsie Nielsen and Sheri Shrock combined on a four-hitter Thursday as Salt Lake Community College defeated North Idaho College 6-1 in the second round of the Scenic West Athletic Conference softball tournament at St. George, Utah.

NIC (28-29) dropped into the consolation bracket and will meet CC Southern Nevada (16-31) this morning in an attempt to avoid elimination. SLCC (42-13) moved into today’s semifinal against host Dixie State (48-4-2).

NIC, the No. 3 seed, opened the day with a 1-0 win over sixth-seeded Colorado Northwestern CC (5-52). Nina Doane allowed three singles, struck out eight and walked none.

The Cardinals’ Erica Demers went 0 for 3 but drove in Lindsay Riley with one out in the seventh.

In the second game, SLCC’s Angela Garrard went 2 for 3 with two RBIs. Jill Oglesbee scored NIC’s run in the fourth, knocked in by Shaena Pelan.
