Masteller’s 72 good for first day lead in B

Ryan Masteller of Davenport shot a 72 to lead after the first day of the boys B golf championship at Columbia Point Golf Course in Richland. Teammate Taylor Warwick was in second place after a first-day 74, a stroke ahead of Tekoa-Oakesdale’s Aaron Klaus.

Lind-Ritzville’s Jon McPherson shot a 68 on the same course to lead the boys 1A tournament by two strokes. Jason Azzarito of Kettle Falls is tied for fourth after a 72.

In other state golf action:

Boys 2A at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco: Chewelah’s Brenton Harting’s shot a 69 to lead Andy Weil of Deer Park by two strokes heading into today’s final round in a battle of two Great Northern League golfers.

Girls 2A at Sun Willows: Ashley Scourey of Pullman was in fourth place after an 84, eight strokes behind leader Kimberly Schutte of Othello.

Girls A/B at Tri-City Country Club in Kennewick: Dena Riechmann of Wilbur-Creston had a 34 on the front en route to a 80 and leads by one over Bridgeport’s Becky Henderson.

Boys 4A at Canyon Lakes in Kennewick: Aaron Biel of Lewis and Clark was in a three-way tie for fifth after an opening round 71, three strokes behind leader T. J. Bordeaux of Bellarmine Prep. Brad Blakely of Gonzaga Prep was at 72 while GSL champion Craig Leslie of Ferris was at 73, tied for 11th.

Girls 4A at Meadow Springs Country Club in Richland: Chris Yun of Bellarmine Prep set the pace with a 69, the only golfer under 70. Sophomore Molly Fuhs of Lewis and Clark was the top GSL finisher with a 75, while District 8 champion Ellie Brophy shot 78, tied for eighth.

Boys 3A at Apple Tree Golf Course in Yakima: Defending champion Joel Dahmen of Clarkston shot 78, seven strokes off the lead of Mount Rainer’s Chas Burns. Dahmen, the only GSL golfer to make the cut, survived by one stroke.

Girls 3A at Apple Tree: West Valley’s Ashley Wieber was the best GSL finisher with an 82, nine strokes behind leader Blair Ressler of Bellingham. Cheney’s Katie Fuqua shot an 84.
