The following is a list of activities to be held in North Idaho over the Memorial Day weekend.

Today

A reading of Citations of Valor and a ceremony to honor 27 local Medal of Valor recipients will be held at 11:30 a.m. at the Kootenai County Administration Building, rooms 1A and 1B. Refreshments will be served. Marine Corp League Detachment 966 will present the color guard.

Memorial Day

Coeur d’Alene Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 889 will present a memorial service at 9 a.m. at the Veterans Park bell site at the Third Street Docks. A 10 a.m. service will begin at St. Thomas Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene. An 11 a.m. service will be at Forest Cemetery. A 2 p.m. service at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens will include a reading of names and a low-elevation flyover by a KC-135R refueling jet, a rifle squad salute and the playing of taps. This tribute is co-hosted by the Hayden Lake VFW Post 9831 and the Marine Corps League Pappy Boyington Detachment 966.

Coeur d’Alene American Legion Post 14 will host a bingo marathon for veterans and the public to begin at 11:30 a.m. at the hall, 754 N. Fourth St. There will be 60 games with a minimum $20 buy-in.

Spirit Lake Garden Club volunteers are encouraging citizens to bring flowers to the 9-11 memorial plaque at the base of the flagpole at the Little Park in Spirit Lake in memory of the victims of 9-11. Music will be provided around 2 p.m., weather permitting. Garden club volunteer Joy French will travel to New York this summer and present the plaque to the city of New York.

Spirit Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1473 will present a veterans memorial service at Blanchard Cemetery at 10 a.m., followed by a service at Athol Cemetery at 11 a.m., and will conclude with a ceremony at Spirit Lake Cemetery at noon. Services will include prayers, three-gun salutes and taps.

Post Falls American Legion Post 143 will present a memorial service at Evergreen Cemetery in Post Falls at 11 a.m. to include a prayer, wreath ceremony, four-gun Salute to the Dead, and bagpipe renditions of “Amazing Grace” and taps.

Rathdrum Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9894 presents a memorial service at Pinegrove Cemetery in Rathdrum at 11 a.m.
