Kayak accident claims life of 22-year-old

GRANGEVILLE, Idaho – A kayaker has died in an accident on the South Fork of the Clearwater River, Idaho County authorities said.

The 22-year-old man fell into the river near Grangeville on Saturday evening. His body was found about 1 1/2 miles downstream. He had been underwater for about three minutes.

The man was taken to Syringa General Hospital in Grangeville, where he was later pronounced dead.

Dispatchers said Sunday night his name will be withheld until relatives are notified.
