CdA schools honor trustee for service

From staff reports

Ron McIntire holds the record for service on Coeur d’Alene’s school board, serving 17 years under six superintendents and with more than two dozen other trustees during his term.

On Monday, the Coeur d’Alene School Board honored McIntire for his service to Coeur d’Alene schools as a trustee, parent and grandparent and for his longtime financial support.

The Hayden mayor and owner of Super 1 Foods received a lifetime membership to the Idaho High School Activities Association.

McIntire was elected to the school board in May 1972 and served through June 1989.

Trustee Vern Newby held up an old picture of McIntire, clad in his trademark black bowtie. He was wearing a black bowtie at Monday’s board meeting.

“He looks the same,” Newby said.

McIntire said not much has changed since he was on the board.

Even the night’s topic, increasing populations in the district’s north schools, was familiar, he said.
