The Spokane Chiefs begin their five-game hockey exhibition season at 7 tonight against the host Everett Silvertips.

The Chiefs will remain in Everett to play the Portland Winter Hawks at 3 p.m. Saturday and the Tri-City Americans at 11 a.m. Sunday.

Spokane will cap its exhibition schedule at 7 p.m. on Sept. 18 against the Seattle Thunderbirds at Eagles Ice-A-Rena.

The Chiefs are taking 28 players on their trip to Everett, including three goaltenders. Jim Watt is the starter with Brandon Tyer and Kirk Irving battling for the backup spot.

The Chiefs said defenseman Riley Clark has been sent home to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and goalie Brett Hamm has gone home to Calgary.
