Dishman Hills tour planned
The Washington Farm Forestry Association will sponsor a picnic and walking tour of the Dishman Hills Natural Area next week.
The association provides education for small-woodland owners and promotes the preservation of family forests.
The Dishman Hills event will be a membership meeting for the Spokane chapter of the association.
The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Camp Caro in Dishman Hills off Appleway Boulevard in Spokane Valley.
Attendees should bring their own food and drink.
At 6 p.m., the group will take a walking tour of the Dishman Hills led by Guy Gifford, a forester with the state Department of Natural Resources, and Mike Hamilton, a geologist and president of the Dishman Hills Natural Area Association, according to a news release.
The tour will showcase the biological and geological features of the area.
Some of the unique forest management challenges also will be discussed.
The event is open to anyone interested in forest management issues.
