MLB suspends, fines Julio for nearly hitting Ojeda with pitch

Baltimore Orioles pitcher Jorge Julio received a four-game suspension from Major League Baseball on Friday for throwing a pitch that nearly hit Minnesota’s Augie Ojeda in the head.

Julio, who has 21 saves for Baltimore this season, was also fined $1,000. Julio has appealed the suspension and fine, saying that he did not throw at Ojeda in Tuesday night’s 3-1 loss to the Twins.

Braves’ Furcal arrested on DUI charge

Atlanta Braves shortstop Rafael Furcal was arrested on drunken driving charges, his second DUI arrest in four years and a potential distraction to a team trying to wrap up its 13th consecutive division title.

Furcal was charged with driving under the influence, speeding and reckless driving.

Rangers get Tejera off waivers

Texas claimed left-hander Michael Tejera off waivers from the Florida Marlins and designated right-hander Rosman Garcia for assignment prior to their game against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Expos, Marlins will play in Chicago

The Montreal Expos and Florida Marlins will play games Monday and Tuesday at the Chicago White Sox’s stadium after the Marlins were forced to adjust their schedule for the second time this month because of a hurricane.
