LC ends long skid to Sandpoint

The last time Lake City defeated Sandpoint in volleyball, this year’s entire squad was still in grade school.

The Timberwolves snapped their losing streak by stinging the visiting Bulldogs 20-25, 25-18, 25-16, 25-12 in an Inland Empire League contest.

Dani Ghramm, with 17 points, and Renee Bordlon combined to serve 31 points for Lake City. Senior outside hitter Kristi Tuntland collected 11 kills and Lauren Stern, the team’s senior setter, passed off 36 assists.

Caitlyn Free, Sandpoint’s 6-foot-2 middle hitter, had 14 kills and 6-0 outside hitter Ketti Wehrle had a game-high 26 digs for the defending Class 4A champions.

In other IEL matches, Moscow stopped Post Falls, 25-13, 25-22, 25-19. Kelsey Taylor, a 6-3 junior middle hitter, had a dozen kills and Meredith Dolny, a 5-9 outside hitter, had 17 digs. … Lakeland swept past Lewiston, 25-18, 25-19, 32-30 at Rathdrum. Cassie Duncan had nine kills and setter Mindy Meyer had 16 assists for the Hawks.

•In the Intermountain League, Timberlake swept past Bonners Ferry 25-9, 25-15, 25-11. Corina Beyers had a dozen kills and Nicole Corn served 13 consecutive points in the first game for the Tigers. … St. Maries rolled over Kellogg 25-15, 25-15, 25-7 behind Kelsi Lee’s dozen kills.

•In the North Star League, Kootenai survived a five-game marathon to stop Clark Fork 13-25, 25-17, 25-18, 18-25, 16-14. Sophomore Cassie Scheffelmaier had 28 assists and junior Darcy Collins collected 15 kills for the Warriors. … Wallace knocked off Coeur d’Alene Charter 25-14, 25-12, 25-14. Junior outside hitter Shala Wild had 14 assists and four aces for the Miners. … Lakeside bounced back from a game-one loss to beat Post Falls Christian 13-25, 25-18, 25-4, 25-9. Corrina Hendrickx and Nonna Johnson combined for 17 aces for the Knights.

•In a non-league match, Priest River held off visiting Newport 25-27, 25-21, 20-25, 25-21, 15-12.

Girls soccer

Courtney Walker scored a pair of goals to lead Coeur d’Alene past Lakeland, 4-1 in an Inland Empire League showdown in Rathdrum. Maggie Smith, the Vikings’ co-captain, suffered a sprained ankle in the win. … Holly Meyer scored in the 47th minute and Janie Perez added the game winner in the 51st minute as Lake City stopped Lewiston, 2-1. … Abby Jensen set up one goal and scored another on a penalty shot to lift Sandpoint to a 3-1 victory over Post Falls.

•In a non-league showdown between neighbors, Moscow need a pair of goals from Jenny Tibbals to knock off Pullman, 2-1.

Boys soccer

Coeur d’Alene received a pair of second-half goals to beat Lakeland, 3-1, in an Inland Empire League match. … Lake City scored five consecutive goals and beat Lewiston 5-1. Sophomore Pat Jewell had a pair of first-half goals.

•In a non-league match, St. George’s and Bonners Ferry played to a 1-1 draw.
