Saxons deal Bullpups first loss of season
Ferris handed Gonzaga Prep its first loss of the Greater Spokane League volleyball season on the Bullpups’ home court.
The Saxons, behind the 34 assists of Miranda Gouin, scored a 25-21, 25-20, 16-25, 25-20 win.
Kasey Blevins worked both ways for Ferris, amassing 14 kills and 22 digs.
Rachael Nicholas had 13 kills to lead Gonzaga Prep, with Liz Hardan adding 29 assists and 5 digs.
In other GSL games: Hannah Zimmerman, Janae Forney and Ivy Bush totaled 28 kills to lead Lewis and Clark to a three-game sweep at Cheney, 25-7, 25-17, 25-11. Zimmerman had a game-high 11 kills and Forney added another nine. … Mead held home court, knocking off West Valley 25-12, 25-15, 25-13. Kelli Tikker had a dozen kills for Lakeside and Caitlin Smith had seven kills and four digs to lead the Cardinals. … Nikki Bardwell had 14 kills and freshman setter Jordan Emmil dished off 26 assists as Colville beat Riverside 25-18, 25-17, 25-11. Caitlin McGrane had 10 kills and seven digs for Colville and Angela Hartill had six kills and six blocks for the Rams.

Deer Park scored 22 minutes into the game and beat visiting Colville 1-0 in the Great Northern League opener for both schools.

The last time Lake City beat Sandpoint in volleyball, this year’s entire squad was still in grade school.
The Timberwolves snapped their losing streak by stinging the visiting Bulldogs in four games, 20-25, 25-18, 25-16, 25-12 in an Inland Empire League contest.
Dani Ghramm, with 17 points, and Renee Bordlon combined to serve 31 points for Lake City. Senior outside hitter Kristi Tuntland collected 11 kills and Lauren Stern, the team’s senior setter, passed off 36 assists.
Caitlyn Free, Sandpoint’s 6-foot-2 middle hitter, had 14 kills and 6-0 outside hitter Ketti Wehrle had a game-high 26 digs for the defending Class 4A champions.
In other IEL matches, Moscow stopped Post Falls, 25-13, 25-22, 25-19. Kelsey Taylor had a dozen kills and Meredith Dolny, a 5-9 outside hitter, had 17 digs. … Lakeland swept past Lewiston 3-0 at Rathdrum. Lakeland’s Cassie Duncan had nine kills.
