Everything’s coming up Daisy for Nick and Jessica
IT’S OFFICIAL: POP STARLET Jessica Simpson has been cast as Daisy Duke in the upcoming movie remake of the 1980s TV series “The Dukes of Hazzard.” And no one is more excited about it than her husband, fellow singer Nick Lachey.
“I was a big fan of Daisy Duke. Growing up as a kid I never missed an episode of `The Dukes of Hazzard,’ ” Lachey said.
“We watched it every Friday night. It’s going to be cool to kind of live it all over again as she goes and does this movie.”
Lachey’s interest may have had something to do with the extremely short shorts worn by the original Daisy, Catherine Bach.
“I actually wore a short skirt, not shorts (to the audition),” said Simpson, whose competition for the part included Jessica Biel, Elisha Cuthbert and Mandy Moore.
Seann William Scott (“Dude, Where’s My Car?) will play Bo Duke (done by John Schneider on TV), while Johnny Knoxville (“Jackass”) will play Luke Duke (originally Tom Wopat).
There’s a whole bunch less of this Brady
Former “Brady Bunch” actors Christopher Knight and Susan Olsen, who portrayed Peter and Cindy Brady on the popular TV sitcom, are among the not-so-A-list celebrities seeking to shed excess pounds on the Discovery Health Channel’s “Body Challenge: Hollywood” series.
Knight, who lost 50 percent of his fat mass during the competition, taped last December, said it has inspired him to leave his high-tech desk job and get back to his acting roots.
“If I’m going to re-approach the entertainment industry, there’s no room for chubby,” he said.
Actually, she was aiming for the ear
Charges have been dismissed against actress Robin Givens after police failed to show up for her traffic court trial for running over an elderly pedestrian’s leg.
The star of the 1980s TV comedy “Head of the Class” and ex-wife of boxer Mike Tyson struck an 89-year-old woman as she was about to step onto the sidewalk after crossing a busy Miami city street in January, officers said.
Givens, who flew in from New York, had no comment leaving court but signed some autographs on her way out.
As growing pains go, this is a bit much
Former “Growing Pains” actress Tracey Gold Marshall has been arrested on felony drunken driving charges after her sport utility vehicle flipped on a California highway, injuring her husband and two of their three children.
The SUV, with Marshall at the wheel, veered off the highway just before midnight on Sept. 3 and rolled over on its way down an embankment, police said. Marshall and her 4-month-old son weren’t hurt, but her husband suffered neck injuries, their 7-year-old son suffered a broken collarbone and a 5-year-old son was cut.
The moral: If you fink, don’t drive
Former “Baywatch” actor Michael Bergin – who claimed he had an affair with the late John F. Kennedy Jr.‘s wife less than a year after she was married – was charged Tuesday with a felony for driving under the influence.
Bergin, whose book about his relationship with Carolyn Bessette Kennedy, “The Other Man: A Love Story,” was released in March, was charged in connection with a July incident in West Hollywood in which a professional inline skater was struck and seriously injured by his SUV.
