Yankees 3, Royals 0: At Kansas City, Mo., Javier Vazquez pitched New York to its second consecutive shutout, and Derek Jeter homered and doubled twice in a victory over the Royals. Tony Clark also connected for the Yankees, who entered the day with a four-game lead over Boston in the East. They have a day off before beginning a three-game series against the Red Sox on Friday night at Yankee Stadium.

Blue Jays 3, Orioles 0: At Toronto, Ted Lilly pitched eight scoreless innings and the Blue Jays ended a four-game losing skid with a victory over Baltimore. Lilly (11-10) won consecutive decisions for the first time since June 8. The All-Star left-hander allowed six hits while striking out six and walking two.

Indians 5, Tigers 3: At Cleveland, Ben Broussard’s two-run double sparked a three-run eighth, sending the Indians to a win over Detroit.

Twins 6, White Sox 1: At Minneapolis, Carlos Silva pitched one-hit ball into the sixth before leaving with a bruised right ankle, and Minnesota toppled Chicago for its eighth consecutive win.

Red Sox 8, Devil Rays 6: At Boston, Manny Ramirez hit a tiebreaking sacrifice fly, and Kevin Millar and Mark Bellhorn had two-run homers to lift the Red Sox to an victory over Tampa Bay.

Rangers 10, Athletics 3: At Oakland, Calif., Mark Teixeira hit a three-run homer off Mark Mulder, and Texas kept creeping back into the playoff chase with a victory over the Athletics. Teixeira has six homers in the last six games, in which the Rangers have five wins.
