Stark deals five aces to lead Coeur d’Alene to victory
Coeur d’Alene came up aces.
The Vikings served up 15 aces en route to a 25-19, 25-23, 24-26, 25-12 Inland Empire League volleyball victory at Lewiston on Thursday.
Lindsey Stark led the serving effort with five aces. Jenna DeLong had a half-dozen blocks and eight kills for Coeur d’Alene.
In another IEL match, Ashley Beck had 13 kills and Mindy Meyer added 14 digs and 25 assists to lead Lakeland past Post Falls 25-17, 25-15, 26-24.
•Timberlake received 15 kills, 16 assists, three aces and seven digs from Corina Beyer en route to a 25-19, 25-21, 27-25 Intermountain League win over Priest River. Nicole Frieze had five kills and Amanda Corning had as many digs for the Spartans.
•In the North Star League, Wallace rolled to a 25-16, 25-9, 25-17 win at Post Falls Christian behind Shala Wild‘s 23 assists and three aces.
•Selkirk scored a non-league win over visiting Bonners Ferry, 25-20, 16-25, 25-14, 25-21.
Girls soccer
Gonzaga Prep held host Coeur d’Alene to one shot and came away with a 4-0 non-league victory. Sarah Dean scored twice to lead the Bullpups. … In other non-leaguers, freshman Erin Liberatore and senior Jennifer Fehlman both scored twice and senior Karli Kasun had a goal and an assist as Post Falls earned a 6-1 win at Colville. … Lakeland scored a 5-0 win at Riverside. Junior Kayla Stiegemeier scored the game-winning goal in the 25th minute, then assisted on a pair of insurance goals. Amanda North and Misty McMillen shared time in goal for the Hawks, combining to make a half-dozen saves in the shutout. … The Sandpoint junior varsity received two goals and two assists from Liz Watson en route to a 5-0 victory over St. Maries.
Boys soccer
Sam Johnson had a goal and two assists in Moscow’s 4-0 Inland Empire League win over visiting Lakeland. Johnson scored the game-winning goal four minutes into the contest. The Bears limited the Hawks to four shots on goal.
•Nate Thurston found his little brother, Billy, with the deciding goal in the 73rd minute of play as St. Maries knocked off Sandpoint’s JV 1-0 in a non-league game. It was the first goal of Billy Thurston’s career.
