Shock clinch playoff berth with victory

Cheryl Ford and Barbara Farris each scored 15 points to help the Detroit Shock make the playoffs with a 68-54 win over the Charlotte Sting on Sunday in Auburn Hills, Mich.

The Shock clinched the No. 3 seed and a chance to defend their WNBA title, while the Sting were eliminated on the final day of the season.

Liberty 79, Mystics 75: Becky Hammon and rookie Shameka Christon scored 18 points apiece, and New York locked up the second seed in the Eastern Conference with a win over visiting Washington.

Hammon had six points in the final 36 seconds for New York.

Sun 80, Fever 60: Reserve Asjha Jones scored a season-high 16 points and Connecticut clinched the regular-season Eastern Conference title for the first time in its six-year history with a win over visiting Indiana.

Mercury 78, Comets 64: Plenette Pierson and Anna DeForge each scored 24 points to lead Phoenix past visiting Houston.

Tina Thompson had 17 and Octavia Blue scored 13 to lead the Comets.

Monarchs 72, Lynx 63: Yolanda Griffith had 18 points and seven rebounds to lead Sacramento past visiting Minnesota.
