Hey, lay off Blanchette

We are diehard Cougars fans and beg to disagree with readers who disparage John Blanchette’s columns on the subject.

We look forward to his observations and usually find them to be fair, realistic, witty and agreeably unpredictable. He offers opinions that are sometimes undeniably painful but need to be expressed. While he is not a “cheerleader” in the old Harry Missildine mode, he certainly does not minimize the accomplishments of the program in recent years, and gives credit when credit is due.

We welcome his role as “critic” in the best sense of the word, and assume that he ultimately wishes the program success. Why wouldn’t he? A WSU athletics program of which we can all be proud showcases the Inland Northwest in a positive light, and that is the place he works and lives as a sportswriter.
