Griffits guides CdA’s rally over Hawks
Coeur d’Alene and Lakeland entered Tuesday night’s Inland Empire League volleyball showdown tied with identical 3-4 records, and it took five tight games to break the tie.
The Vikings rallied from a 2-1 deficit in games to edge the Hawks in Rathdrum, 25-20, 12-25, 24-26, 25-17, 15-9.
Jenna Griffits paced Coeur d’Alene with a game-high 20 kills, two aces and six blocks.
Cassie Duncan and Ashley Beck each had 13 kills for the Hawks, with Duncan adding four aces and Beck 16 assists.
In other IEL matches, Lake City swept visiting Post Falls 25-22, 25-13, 25-11. Rene Bordelon served the last three points to close out the match, including a pair of aces. Amy Lawson led the Timberwolves with eight kills and ended the match with a stuff block. … Lewiston stopped visiting Moscow 18-25, 25-23, 25-17, 19-25, 15-12.

Trey Leonard scored to give the victorious Vikings a 1-0 lead at halftime. … Russel Dudley and Sam Johnson each scored as Moscow blanked Lakeland 2-0 at Rathdrum. Two goalkeepers combined to get the shutout win for the Bears. … Sandpoint’s Chris Hepperly scored a goal and assisted on three more as the Bulldogs posted a 6-0 win over visiting Lake City. The senior forward had a hand in the Bulldogs’ first four goals, setting up Anthony Sorentino for the second goal at the 20-minute mark and adding his own goal a minute later.

Abby Jensen had a goal and an assist as Sandpoint earned a road victory, blanking Lake City 5-0 in an IEL contest. Five different Bulldogs scored. … Jo Byrne had a goal and an assist and Mia Tibbals assisted on two goals as Moscow held off visiting Lakeland 3-1. Kayla Stiegemeier scored the Hawks’ lone goal in the 66th minute.
