Team with girls must forfeit games

Associated Press

BRIGHTON, Colo. – A grade school soccer team with both girl and boy players was ordered to forfeit its season because their league doesn’t allow girls to play.

Bromley East Charter School was told to forfeit last week by the Northern Colorado Independent League. The league, which comprises 11 charter and private schools, offers two fall sports – soccer for boys and volleyball for girls.

Parents were angered by the decision, which caused an opponent to walk off the field last week after the first whistle. On Monday, Bromley East outscored its opponent 3-0 in the last game of the season, although its opponent had already been declared the winner by forfeit.
