Council to offer forum on domestic violence
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and the Interfaith Council is gathering leaders from several different faiths to discuss the issue.
Debra K. Adams, a survivor of domestic violence, will be the keynote speaker in the forum, which will included panelists of Muslim, Presbyterian, Seventh-day Adventist, Jewish, Evangelical Lutheran, Buddhist and Roman Catholic backgrounds.
Adams will share her story and talk about the work she does for women and children who have been affected by domestic and sexual violence. The event will be Tuesday from 1 to 6:30 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 4340 W. Fort Wright Drive.
After the forum there will be a candlelight service from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
The event is free, and dinner and child care will be provided.

Cathedral anniversary
The Episcopal Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, 127 E. 12th Ave., recently celebrated its 75th anniversary of worship.
Eighty years ago, the Rt. Reverend Edward Makin Cross came to Spokane as a missionary and enlisted architect Ernest V. Price to help him build the gothic-style cathedral.
On Sept. 26, more than 850 people and 100 Episcopal bishops from all over the country gathered for a special 1 1/2 -hour service. The bishops were in town for the national conference of the House of Bishops.
The event took four months to plan, and dozens of people helped with the preparations.
Holy Spirit conference
St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, 3520 E. 18th Ave., will host a conference, “God’s Covenant and Relationship with Us,” on Friday and Saturday.
The keynote speaker will be Jim Murphy, who started carrying a cross across America to spread the Gospel.
Murphy started his journey in St. Petersburg, Fla., and 18 months and 14 pairs of shoes later, he arrived at the Pacific Ocean.
He has also worked as a bodyguard for Mother Teresa and is a published author.

Catholicism inquiry class
The parish of St. Thomas More, 505 W. St. Thomas More Way, is offering an inquiry class for anyone interested in the Roman Catholic faith.
The classes will be offered on Sunday and on Oct. 10 in the chapel.

EXP worship service
Covenant Christian Church, 5616 S. Palouse Highway, is offering a new form of worship service Sunday at 7 p.m.
The EXP Worship can only be attempted in the dark and promises to be loud, quiet, deep and wide, organizers say

Wine tasting and auction
St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 5720 S. Perry St., is hosting “Toasting and Tasting,” its fourth annual wine-tasting and auction event.
Local wineries will be featured this year, and vintners will be on hand on Saturday from 7 to 10 p.m. to discuss their wines.
Hors d’oeuvres will also be served, and there will be both silent and oral auctions.
Tickets are $22.50 and can be purchased at the door or in advance.

St. Francis Day
In celebration of St. Francis of Assisi, St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 316 E. 24th Ave., is hosting a Blessing of the Animals on Sunday.
Pets can sit with their families at the 8:30 a.m. service and can come forward to be blessed.
The Spokane Humane Society will also be on hand with animals that are available to adopt.

The Radha Yoga Center, 406 S. Coeur d’Alene St., is offering a class in chanting mantra for mornings.
The practice of mantra yoga can provide a sense of calm and transform emotions.
