Fish Fest will cover wide range of topics

Rich Landers Outdoors editor

Water temperatures are nearly ideal and the walleye bite is coming on. Do you know how to get in on the action?

The annual Lake Pend Oreille spring fishing derby is only a few weeks off. Want some tips on how to get a share of the prize money?

Fly fishing on the Spokane River will be in full swing earlier than usually this year. Are you ready with the right patterns and techniques?

Anglers can get the scoop on these topics and much more on Saturday during the annual Fish Fest at White’s Outdoor, 4002 E. Ferry Ave.

The free event offers a chance to see the latest in fishing boats and tackle while signing up for prize drawings.

Kids can enter the Bassmaster’s Kids Casting Competition, which involves hitting targets at various distances in a pool for prizes and a chance at qualifying for other contests.

Of particular interest are more than 20 seminars conducted by local fishing experts covering specific fishing techniques to help anglers make the most of their outings this season.

Seven of the seminars deal specifically with walleye fishing by zeroing in on topics such as boat control, structure, crank bait trolling and slither rigging.

Other topics to be covered include using sonar and GPS, targeting lake trout, bass in heavy cover, dropshot rigging, northern pike, spin tackle secrets, smallmouth bass, fishing the Hula Grub and crankbaits for bass, Lake Roosevelt rainbows and kokanee, downriggers and more.
