Well, they’re all certainly desperate for attention

SURE, THE STARS of ABC’s “Desperate Housewives” look all cool and composed on the cover of May’s Vanity Fair.

But behind the scenes, the photo shoot of the five femme fatales in bathing suits was a complete catfight.

It all started when Teri Hatcher was allowed to select her suit first – despite specific instructions to the contrary by an ABC representative.

“This is a problem,” the rep said. “I’m getting text messages from Eva (Longoria). Everything is not fine.”

Then, when Hatcher took the center spot for the shoot – another no-no, according to the others – Marcia Cross grabbed her bathrobe and stormed off, spewing expletives.

Hatcher later walked to the other end of the set, where “she got into a tearful, heated conversation on her cell phone,” the magazine reports.

Finally, Nicollette Sheridan ended up in the middle, flanked by Hatcher and Cross, with Longoria and Felicity Huffman posed beneath them – although Cross and Huffman can’t be seen when the cover is folded.

Because she’s worth $1.9 million

By the way, “Desperate Housewives” beauty Eva Longoria has signed a $1.9 million contract to be the new face of cosmetics giant L’Oreal.

She joins a succession of celebrities including Jennifer Aniston, Natalie Imbruglia and Beyonce Knowles who have starred in ads for the makeup company, accompanied by the slogan: “Because I’m worth it.”

“She’s been told she was picked for her stunning face and figure, but also for her beautiful, glossy hair,” says a friend, adding: “She will probably be doing lots of shampoo ads like Jennifer Aniston did at the height of her ‘Friends’ fame.”

The straight skinny from Bacall

Veteran actress Lauren Bacall has little good to say about today’s screen stars.

“Today, women with minuscule talent are willing to sacrifice everything for their careers,” says Bacall, 80.

“Actors today go into TV, which I don’t consider has a lot to do with acting,” she says. “They only think of stardom. If you photograph well, that’s enough.

“I have a terrible time distinguishing one from another. Girls wear their hair the same and are much too anorexic-looking.”

We’re betting on Baba

Elisabeth Hasselbeck, a co-host of ABC’s “The View,” has given birth to a baby girl.

She delivered on Wednesday – the same date that her husband, NFL quarterback Tim Hasselbeck, was born. It’s their first child.

Hasselbeck, who will be on maternity leave for about six weeks, will reveal the baby’s name during a phone call today to her co-hosts on the daytime chat fest.

Hey, if the shootout fits, wear it

Speaking of names, rapper C-Murder, whose real name is Corey Miller, says he will go by C Miller from now on.

Miller, brother of rappers Master P and Silkk the Shocker, is doing time for a second-degree murder conviction stemming from a New Orleans nightclub shooting in 2003.

“People hear the name C-Murder, and they don’t realize that the name simply means that I have seen many murders in my native Calliope projects neighborhood,” he said.
