Liberty Lake cleanup scheduled for next Saturday

The Spokesman-Review

The City of Liberty Lake is rolling out the trash bins to help citizens spiff up their community and save a few bucks on dump fees.

Residents can drop off green waste and an assortment of household junk for free at Pavillion Park next Saturday.

Bins will be set up from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the only junk that’s off limits is large appliances and hazardous waste.

Lewis Griffin, city administrator and organizer of the event, said this is a great opportunity for families to cleanup their yards, homes and garages without paying $40 or more in dump fees.

“It’s so expensive to go to the dump nowadays,” Griffin said.

This is the fourth year for the beautification project, which is sponsored by the city and supported by local Scouts and other volunteers.

During last spring’s cleanup day, Griffin said 32 tons of trash were hauled away, in addition to nearly 6 tons of clean green waste. In the fall, the community cleaned up another 11 combined tons of clean green and trash.

The cleanup day was among three scheduled at the recent joint city and sewer district meeting last week.

Another communitywide cleanup is scheduled in October and a leaf pickup day will happen in November.
