Round up, dispose of hazardous waste on Saturdays in April
Just about everyone has hazardous waste in the garage or under the kitchen sink. It’s the used motor oil, the leftover weedkiller, the last of the paint.
Those wondering what to do with all that stuff can take advantage of several cleanup options this month. The Spokane Aquifer Joint Board and the Spokane Regional Solid Waste System are joining forces to dispose of hazardous waste at various Valley Fire stations on Saturdays during April.
Waste can be dropped off today at Station 2, 9111 E. Frederick Ave. Other dates and drop-off locations are: Station 3, 2218 N. Harvard Road, April 23; and Station 4, 22406 E. Wellesley Ave., April 30. Any Valley area resident who lives over the aquifer may bring items for disposal.
Next Saturday, Spring Greening Day, the waste may be brought to the Valley Transfer station at Sullivan and Kiernan or any other transfer station in the county.
Also next Saturday elderly and disabled residents may arrange to have volunteers pick up their hazardous household waste. Those interested in having items picked up must make arrangements in advance by calling 532-7645. It’s free and available to any elderly or disabled resident living over the aquifer. Specially trained volunteers from the Retired Senior and Volunteer Program will be conducting the pickup.
The waste disposal programs are limited to household items such as batteries, pesticides, solvents, automotive fluids and items marked flammable.
