Jackson Miller attains Eagle Scout rank

Jackson Miller, a sophomore at Central Valley High School, received his Eagle Scout Award in a April 24 ceremony at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Liberty Lake. For his Eagle project, Jackson organized and directed the Liberty Lake Fall Cleanup Day held Oct. 16.

• The following areas students recently received scholarships for the 2005-2006 academic year from Washington State University:

Martha V. Layton, a senior at Shadle Park High School, received a $1,000 Science Opportunity Scholarship. She is the daughter of Cynthia and Kevin Layton of Spokane and plans to study pharmacology at WSU.

Rachelle R. Moore received a $3,000 Crimson Regents Scholarship. She is a senior at Central Valley High School and the daughter of Marlaine and Dave Moore of Liberty Lake.

Bobbie D. Riley, the daughter of LeAnn Riley of Spokane, received a $1,000 Science Opportunity Scholarship. A senior at Cheney High School, she plans to study astrophysics at WSU.

Erica J. Ellsworth is a senior at Lewis and Clark High School and received a $3,000 Crimson Regents Scholarship and a $1,500 Cougar Alumni Scholarship. She is the daughter of Suzi Fogelquist and Brian Ellsworth, both of Spokane, and plans to study biology at WSU.

Brittanee N. Tower, the daughter of Barbara and Lance Tower of Wilbur, Wash., received a $6,426 Louis Sheffels Family University Scholarship. She is a senior at Wilbur High School and plans to study biology and physical therapy at WSU.

Theresa J. Hoath has received a $2,000 Herbert L. Eastlick Scholarship. She plans to study microbiology at WSU and is the daughter of Celia and Len Hoath of Nine Mile Falls.

• Mary Lee Weeks has recently been awarded a teaching fellowship from Knowles Science Teaching Foundation. She is the daughter of Richard and Mary Weeks of Spokane and a graduate of Ferris High School and California Polytechnic State University.

• Lisa Cartwright, a math teacher at Franklin Elementary School in Pullman, was recently awarded the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. She will receive a $10,000 National Science Foundation gift.
