Men force woman to hide in bed during theft

From staff reports

A South Hill woman was ordered to keep her bedcovers over her head early Sunday while intruders stole her valuables.

The woman, who lives on West Seventh, was awakened about 2:25 a.m. Sunday by the sound of breaking glass, Spokane Police spokesman Dick Cottam said in a news release.

She called 911, but hung up and ducked under her bedcovers when she heard one of the intruders enter her bedroom.

He told her to remain under the covers and not look at the two burglars, who demanded money.

When she said she had none, the victim heard the thieves take her jewelry box.

They also stole a DVD player, her cordless phone, a cell phone and a small amount of cash left on a table, police said.

The burglars fled before officers responded to the 911 call.

The 911 system logs the address of phone calls, and police routinely respond to interrupted calls, Cottam said.

A similar incident occurred early Tuesday when two men broke into a home near Hart Field and fled with jewelry and a few dollars.

Police said the same men may have been responsible for both break-ins.

Anyone with information on either break-in is asked to call Secret Witness at 327-5111.

That private organization is offering a $1,000 cash reward in last Tuesday’s robbery.

Callers can use a code name and number.
