Georgius’ hit produces gorgeous finish for CdA

Travis Georgius singled home Shea Vucinich in the bottom of the 11th inning to lift the Coeur d’Alene Vikings to a 10-9 victory over the Sandpoint Bulldogs in Inland Empire League baseball play on Tuesday afternoon.

Sandpoint (7-12, 5-10) took a 9-5 lead into the bottom of the seventh before the wheels came off. Mike Estrada pulled the Vikings (13-6, 7-5) to within two runs with a two-run double, Jake Hall’s groundout pushed across another run, and Nic Duman sent the game into extra innings with an RBI single.

Georgius went 3 for 5 with four RBIs, while Max Lyons finished 3 for 6 with a pair of runs. Hall, who pitched the first three innings, retook the mound in the 11th to pick up the victory.

“The Kellogg Wildcats (3-11, 1-10) had no answer for Bonners Ferry junior Ben Turner in an Intermountain League matchup at Bonners Ferry (6-10, 4-5). Turner went 5 for 5 with seven RBIs and three runs. He belted a three-run home run in the sixth and also ripped a pair of doubles. … The Timberlake at Priest River game was postponed and rescheduled for May 7.

Softball

Sean Topp allowed just two hits and took a shutout into the bottom of the sixth and the visiting Post Falls Trojans (14-3, 10-1) rolled to a 12-2 win over the Lakeland Hawks (8-9, 7-7) in Inland Empire League play. Amy Musch had two hits and scored twice, and Erik Willy had two hits and two RBIs for the Trojans. … Also in the IEL, the Coeur d’Alene Vikings (14-6, 8-4) scored early and often in a 24-0 victory over the visiting Sandpoint Bulldogs (0-15, 0-14). No details were available.

“The visiting Kellogg Wildcats (5-13, 4-7) scored 15 runs over the final two innings, eight coming in the eighth after opening the inning with three straight walks, to rally for a 25-17 victory over the Bonners Ferry Badgers (0-9, 0-9) in Intermountain League action. Monica Bermudez had three hits, including a bases-loaded triple in a nine-run fourth, for the Badgers. … The Timberlake Tigers (16-1, 9-0) scored three runs in each of the third, fourth, and fifth innings to overcome a three-run deficit en route to an 11-4 victory over the host Priest River Spartans (6-13, 3-7).

Washington boys soccer

Jess Thompson and Pat Smart each had a goal and an assist to lead the Riverside Rams to a 2-1 victory over Pullman, handing the Greyhounds their first Great Northern League loss. After Pullman’s Levi Corcoran knotted the scored in the 29th minute, Smart scored the game-winner 8 minutes later. … Elsewhere in the GNL, the Colville Indians edged the visiting Deer Park Stags 4-3 by winning a shootout 4-2. Romeo Tsenterabze accounted for all three Deer Park goals. … Jason Gomez scored three goals and Lucas Assis scored twice to lead the visiting Medical Lake Cardinals to a 5-0 romp over the Lakeside Eagles at Nine Mile Falls.

Washington girls golf

Lewis and Clark finished 10 strokes ahead of runner-up Mead at a Greater Spokane League match at Hangman Valley Golf Course. Mandy Parsons of University earned medalist honors with a 2-over-par 73.
