National Scholar/Athlete award winners named

Several area high school students have earned a National Scholar/Athlete awards from the U.S. Army Reserve. The top male and female scholar/athletes from each school are recognized. Students are listed by high school.

“Two area students have been named to the dean’s list for the spring quarter at the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Indiana.

Christopher Halvorson of Spokane is a junior studying computer science. He is the son of Ronald and Donna Halvorson.

Brian Birgenheier of Spokane a sophomore studying electrical engineering. He is the son of Janet Porco.

“Several area students earned degrees from Eastern Oregon University in June. Graduates are listed by their hometown.

Chewelah: Michelle Kinley.

Spokane: Ian Lynch, Jacqueline Mahoney, John Miller, Nicole Sauve and Rachelle Stockman.

“Brendon Robar of Spokane has been awarded a $1,000 scholarship by U.S. Bancorp. He was selected based on his academic performance, leadership potential and participation in school and community activities. He will be attending Multnomah Bible College.

“Gallagher Dalton-Flinn of Spokane has been named to the dean’s list for the spring semester at Emory College in Georgia. Dalton-Finn earned a bachelor’s degree from Emory in May. He is the son of Anthony Finn of Spokane and Tama Dalton of Veradale.

“Jon Howard of Spokane recently graduated from Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Institute in Paris. He has been accepted to an internship at the Guy Savory Restaurant in Paris. Howard, the son of Keith and Janet Howard, is a graduate of Northwest Christian High School and Spokane Community College.

Idaho

Erin Johnson, third baseman for the North Idaho College softball team, was named an Academic All-American by the National Junior College Athletic Association for earning a 3.71 grade-point average last season. The team as a whole was named Spring Academic Team of the Year by the association for maintaining an average grade-point average for the season of 3.16. Johnson is a graduate of Lake City High School.

“The following North Idaho students have been named to the spring quarter dean’s list at Eastern Washington University. Students must maintain a grade-point average of 3.5 or above to make the list. The students are listed by their hometown.

Bonners Ferry: Casady Brimhall, Roseann Liermann, Chelsee Sandaker.

Coeur d’Alene: Andrea Darakjy, Chris Beilfuss, Desiree Moody, James Day, Mindy Hayes, Kraig Sigler, Troy Anderson, David Gimbel Jr., Teresa Balderrama, Thomas O’Neill.
