Event to aid foundation, Children’s Miracle Network

The “Cool Breeze on a Hot Summer Night” dinner and auction tonight will benefit the Children’s Miracle Network and the Mark Rypien Foundation.

The evening, a precursor to the annual Zak! Celebrity Open Golf Tournament, will be in the Family Pavilion at Northern Quest Casino beginning at 5:30 p.m. It offers foods, auction packages and a chance to glimpse many local and national celebrities.

Tickets are $50 per person, or $1,000 for a sponsor table of eight.

Buttons for nutrition

Photo buttons will be available at the Cow Milking Contest booth at Kids Day 2005 in Riverfront Park on Saturday.

The buttons will be offered for $4 by Baby’s Comin’, a baby keepsake store at 154 S. Madison St. Owners Karen Chittenden and Terrie Vent will donate $1 of every sale to the YWCA Children’s Nutrition Programs.

In addition, a donation bottle will be at the booth to benefit the dietary programs.

Guests are welcome to bring their own photos, or have the option of having Baby’s Comin’ take it for them.

Women Helping Women grants

Women Helping Women Fund distributed grants totally $235,000 to the following local nonprofit organizations in June: Big Brothers and Big Sisters of the Inland Northwest, Cancer Patient Care, Children’s Home Society, Community Colleges of Spokane and Institute for Extended Learning, Culture of Security Consortium, East Central Community Organization, Foster Parent Association of Spokane, Campus Kids and Associated Mentoring Programs at Gonzaga University, Liberty Park Child Development Center, Martin Luther King Jr. Family Outreach Center, Planned Parenthood of the Inland Northwest, Second Harvest Food Bank of the Inland Northwest, Spokane County Extension, Project Access, Spokane Valley Community Center, Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery, West Central Community Center, Women and Children’s Free Restaurant, YMCA of the Inland Northwest, and YWCA of Spokane.

The Women Helping Women Fund is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the empowerment of women and children by creating healthy families and vibrant communities.
