Mystics rally to overcome Fever

Delisha Milton-Jones and Chasity Melvin both made two free throws in the final seven seconds of the Washington Mystics’ 61-60 victory over the Indiana Fever on Sunday night at Washington.

Milton-Jones’ foul shots gave Washington a 59-57 lead with 7.3 seconds left.

Indiana’s Tamika Catchings missed a baseline jumper with 4.5 seconds remaining, and the Fever lost the rebound out of bounds with 2.8 seconds left. Melvin’s free throws gave the Mystics a 61-57 lead with 1.1 seconds remaining.

Catchings, who finished with 11 points, seven rebounds and four assists, hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer.

Alana Beard led the Mystics with 17 points. Milton-Jones had 11 points and Melvin grabbed seven rebounds for Washington, which rallied from a 12-point deficit.

Kelly Miller led the Fever with 16 points, while Natalie Williams added 14 points and nine rebounds but committed six of Indiana’s 17 turnovers.

Lynx 76, Sparks 72: Kristi Harrower had a season-high 15 points, helping Minnesota end a five-game losing streak with a victory over Los Angeles at Minneapolis.

Shock 72, Liberty 67: Deanna Nolan scored 20 points and Swin Cash had season-highs of 11 points and 12 rebounds to lead Detroit to a victory over New York at Auburn Hills, Mich.

Detroit, which lost by one at Houston and in double overtime at Charlotte in its last two games, beat the Liberty for the third time in four meetings this season.

Kara Braxton scored 12 for the Shock and Katie Smith added 11.

Becky Hammon led New York with 18 points, while Ann Wauters had 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Monarchs 55, Comets 45: Reserve guard Kara Lawson scored 13 points, including two late 3-pointers, and the Monarchs beat Houston, holding the Comets to the second-lowest point total in franchise history, at Sacramento, Calif.
