Prugh wins assistants tournament

Ferris High School graduate Corey Prugh shot a second-round 69 to win the Pacific Northwest PGA Assistants Championship on Monday afternoon at Tri-Mountain Golf Course in Ridgefield, Wash.

Prugh, who plays out of The Club at Black Rock, opened the two-day tournament with a 9-under-par 63 and finished with a 12-under, 132 total.

Ritzville High grad Ryan Benzel finished second, four strokes back, after closing with a 67.

Prugh earned $1,000 for the victory. Benzel pocketed $900.

• Gonzaga University junior Mary Kate Morgan shot a qualifying-round 87 in the 103rd North and South Women’s Amateur Golf Championship at Pinehurst, N.C.

Tennis

The University of Washington Huskies announced the hiring of Jill Hultquist as the head coach of the women’s program.

Hultquist replaces Patty McCain, who accepted the head coaching position at Texas.

Hultquist played at the UW and was an assistant under McCain from 1997-2002.
