YOUR BEAUTIFUL HOME

The front yard of Liz and Harry Boyd’s 1911 home used to be unfenced, sloping down toward the sidewalk before the Boyds had a rock wall put in to cut off the slope. They installed a wrought-iron fence that surrounds their massive flower gardens, yard decorations and statues.

Some of the statues come from yard sales, some from antique shops. Liz started collecting them when she was in high school.

“I didn’t go to parties, I went to yard sales,” she says in her native Hungarian accent.

High hedges block the view of Cedar Street traffic from the backyard, which also contains a fountain and a pond the Boyds created from a rock garden.

The unique yard has been a frequent victim of vandalism – raccoons stealing fish, people stealing statues.

“I call them the midnight shoppers,” Liz says.

She and Harry have lived in the six-bedroom home for 12 years. Each summer they make improvements to the yard. In the winter, they work on interior projects.

“I don’t know if it’s beautiful, but I call it early yard sale, late Goodwill,” Liz says.
