Grigsby amateur medalist

Spokane Valley’s Nicholas Grigsby beat Andrew Putnam of University Place on the second playoff hole to earn medalist honors at the Pacific Northwest Junior Boys Amateur Championship at Homestead Farms Golf Resort in Lynden, Wash.

Grigsby had a double-eagle on the 465-yard, par-5 fifth and finished with a 6-under-par 138 total.

Joining Grigsby in the Championship Flight for match play are Clarkston’s Joel Dahmen (143, tied for 8th) and Spokane’s Dustin Poe (144, T-10th), Sean Bulger (148, T-21st) and Justin Haase (148).

Other area golfers in lower match-play flights are: Sean King (153, T-47th), Ryan Jones (156, T-61st), Tyler Nelson (157, T-66th), Patrick Norton (161, T-90th), Tate Kelly (162, T-96th), Nicholas Castrolang (166, T-110th), Tanner Robb (171, T-121st), Alex Batson (173, T-124th), Jase Rouleau (175, 133rd), Parker Kelly (178, 135th) and Stephen Thoen (184, T-137th).

Basketball

Gonzaga head women’s basketball coach Kelly Graves has announced the hiring of Jodie Kaczor as an assistant coach on the Bulldogs staff.

Kaczor has served the past two seasons as the coordinator of basketball operations at GU. She replaces J.R. Payne, who left earlier this summer to become the top assistant at Boise State University.

Soccer

Brett Hite was named the PDL U-19 Player of the Year for 2005 after the Shadow forward scorched through the season with 27 points on 10 goals and seven assists.

Hite, a University High product who plays at Washington, also received this honor last year.
