Mary Tyler Moore appearing on ‘ ‘70s’ show

From wire reports

Mary Tyler Moore is returning to the time and place – figuratively and literally – where she did some of her most famous work on television.

Moore has signed on to guest-star in three episodes of “That ‘70s Show” this season, playing a beloved local newscaster who hires Jackie (Mila Kunis) as her assistant – and who isn’t so charming when the cameras are turned off.

The role will wink at her iconic “Mary Tyler Moore Show” persona, for which she won four Emmys playing the nice-to-a-fault TV news producer Mary Richards.

“That ‘70s Show” shoots on the same Studio City soundstage as the “Mary Tyler Moore Show” once did. Moore will be the third former “MTM” cast member – after Valerie Harper and Betty White – to guest on the Fox series.

Garofalo goes ‘West Wing’

Janeane Garofalo will guest star as a controversial media strategist on NBC’s “The West Wing” this fall.

Garofalo’s character is hired by Democratic presidential candidate Matt Santos (Jimmy Smits) as his new director of communications, and urges Josh Lyman (Bradley Whitford) and other staffers to stop playing politics and start concentrating on connecting with the electorate.

A former cast member of NBC’s “Saturday Night Live,” Garofalo’s screen credits include “The Truth About Cats & Dogs” and “Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion.”
