Trailhead members glean honors at invitational

As luck would have it, when golfers from 12 visiting clubs from as far away as Anaconda, Mont., came to play in Trailhead Ladies Golf Club’s invitational Aug. 17, they were forced to brave pouring rain.

But it didn’t dampen the fun, although the hosts hogged half of the honors.

A total of 62 players participated, were fed and won prizes during the annual event.

Trailhead players turned in all four low-gross scores. Betty Grassl shot 39 in first flight, Marcia Rowley 44 in second, Dee Elder 51 in third and Sandi Hatcher 48 in fourth.

Low-net in first flight was shared by Betty Thompson from Downriver and Pegi Hill from Wandermere with 30.

Sammie Fletcher from Painted Hills netted 29 in second. Polly Soderquist and Linda Barry from Liberty Lake had 30 and 27, respectively, in third and fourth flights.

Other clubs represented were Hangman Valley, Esmeralda and Qualchan from Spokane, St. Maries, Highlands, Coeur d’Alene and Avondale from Idaho.

In this week’s Trailhead club medal play, Grassl shot 45 in A flight, Hatcher 53 in B and Genevra Barrett recorded low-gross in C. Eileen Couper shot 69 in no-handicap.

Net winners were Deanna Hauser in A with 31 and Patty Haskins in B with 32.
