The Spokesman-Review

Kayla Stiegemeier had a hat trick before halftime and finished with four goals as host Lakeland drubbed Sandpoint 5-1 in Inland Empire League action Tuesday at Rathdrum. It was reportedly the Hawks’ first win over the Bulldogs in 10 years.

Stiegemeier scored in the fourth minute off an assist from Alysha Puckett. She then doubled her tally and the lead in the eighth minute, scoring off a feed from Keeva Duffey.

After Sandpoint pulled one back in the 20th minute, Natalie Nichols, a junior who had two goals and an assist in the game, fed Stiegemeier in the 30th minute as the senior forward completed her hat trick.

Nichols rounded out the first-half scoring with a goal off an assist from Jaymie Stuermer.

Stiegemeier added her fourth, again from Nichols, to round out the scoring in the 78th minute in the season-opener for both teams.

Lakeland outshot Sandpoint 14-10 on the day. Hawks goalie Amanda North made eight saves to earn the win.
