Unitarian Universalist Church offers alternative gift fair

The Unitarian Universalist Church of Spokane, 4340 W. Fort George Wright Drive, is offering an alternative gift fair Saturday from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Gift-givers can make a donation in the names of their loved ones to the Hope House for Women, Heifer International, Second Harvest, Planned Parenthood and Partners for Pets.

Anyone who makes a donation will receive a card that explains the gift.

Holiday concerts

“ The Episcopal Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, 127 E. 12th, is the site of “The Glory of Vivaldi” concert Sunday at 4 and 7 p.m.

The Spokane Youth Orchestra and the Spokane Area Children’s Chorus will perform, and the concert will include discussion of the life and music of Antonio Vivaldi.

Whitworth College, 300 W. Hawthorne Road., is presenting the Shepherd’s Bells Handbell Choir concert Friday at 7:30 p.m.

The concert will be in the Seeley Mudd Chapel on the Whitworth campus.

Northwest Christian Elementary School is presenting its annual Christmas concert Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Calvary Chapel, 511 W. Hastings Road.

The performance will include the Hallelujah Chorus by George Handel, Celtic music, and a performance by the school’s band, and the kindergarten students will dress up like sheep and perform “All We Like Sheep.”

Heritage Congregational Church, 1801 E. 29th, is presenting “Just Plain Darin” today at 7 p.m.

The concert is part of a series that features local Christian artists. Just Plain Darin, also known as Darin Hilderbrand, is a singer-songwriter from Eastern Washington who also is a worship leader and previously led the band Kidd Robin.

Bazaars and sales

Mission Community Presbyterian Church, 2103 E. Mission Ave., is presenting a holiday bazaar Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Items for sale include Christmas gift ideas and baked goods. Lunch will be available for sale as well.

St. Charles Parish, 4515 N. Alberta, is holding a minibazaar and bake sale Saturday from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and Sunday from 8 a.m. to noon.

Highland Park United Methodist Church, 611 S. Garfield St., is selling traditional mochi Saturday from 6 a.m. until supplies run out.

Members of the church will make the mochi, little cakes created from glutinous rice that are traditional New Year’s fare.

Taize service

St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, 2120 E. First Ave., is presenting a candlelight Taize prayer service Sunday at 7 p.m.

The service includes silence, prayers, Scripture readings and melodic chants.
