Cheney prevails over Clarkston in overtime, 53-52

The second go-around as girls basketball coach for Hal Sautter at Cheney began successfully Friday with a 53-52 non-league overtime win against visiting Clarkston.

Cheney took a 12-6 first-quarter lead and it was good enough to reach OT where a basket with 20 seconds remaining secured the win.

Calynne Oyolokor had a dozen rebounds and teamed with Cami Hatch for 19 points.

Bantams star Misty Atkinson hit 17 of 21 free throws and finished with 23 points.

Mead 47, Mt. Spokane 40

The Panthers capitalized on 22 steals and rallied after trailing 21-18 at halftime for the home win.

Nikki Nelson had eight steals and 13 deflections in her Mead debut. Three players, Chelsea Mykines, Alysha Green and Kelli Valentine scored in double figures.

University 62, Central Valley 51

The Titans had enough healthy bodies, particularly Dara Zack and Tonya Schnibbe, to hold off their visiting rival.

Zack, a junior, scored 23 points, had eight rebounds and four assists. Point guard Schnibbe had 16.

But it was Kara Crisp, with three third-quarter 3-point baskets and all 11 of her points in the second half that enabled U-Hi to pull away.

Tracy Goehri scored 18 points and Heidi Heintz 12 for the Bears (1-1).

Lewis and Clark 64, Ferris 25

The league favorites made short work of their South Hill rival, allowing no Saxon to score more than six points.

Meanwhile the Tigers’ Heather Bowman (15 points) and Lyndi Siedensticker (13), outscored Ferris by themselves.

LC’s non-league home game which was scheduled to be played today with Redmond has been canceled because of weather.

Shadle Park 65, North Central 45

The Highlanders scored the first nine points of the fourth quarter to lead 55-39 after visiting NC wiped out most of an earlier 13-point deficit.

Lexi Bishop was on fire from outside, scoring a game high 26 points. Lexi Petterson contributed 16 more inside for the taller Shadle team.

Gonzaga Prep 64, Rogers 26

Sarah Jennings scored 16 points, Tara Cronin had nine steals and Corinna O’Brien eight assists in the easy win at home over the Pirates.

East Valley 59, West Valley 28

Eleaya Schuerch and Kelsey Hentges provided the offensive punch as the Knights cruised on the road against the Eagles.

Schuerch scored 20 points and Hentges added 13. Amanda Rippee added eight rebound and for assists.
