Northern Iowa shocks Hawkeyes in OT
Northern Iowa is at its best when it plays at home against ranked Iowa teams.
Erik Crawford scored seven of his nine points in overtime, and Northern Iowa knocked off No. 12 Iowa 67-63 on Tuesday night in Cedar Falls, Iowa. It was the Panthers’ third straight upset of a ranked Hawkeyes team in the UNI-Dome.
The Panthers (5-1) also got 19 points from Eric Coleman and 16 from Ben Jacobson, who helped send the game into overtime by hitting three 3-pointers down the stretch in regulation.
This time, the Hawkeyes (7-2), led by Greg Brunner’s 26 points, seemed on the verge of ending their struggles in the UNI-Dome.
(4) Villanova 79, Bucknell 60: At Lewisburg, Pa., Allen Ray scored 20 points and Randy Foye had 28 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Wildcats over the Bison. Ray answered two second-half surges with some big shots, including two key 3-pointers for Villanova after Bucknell closed a 19-point deficit to three.
(14) Michigan State 77, (6) Boston College 70: At New York, Maurice Ager and Paul Davis both had a big second half, and the Spartans handed the Eagles their first loss of the season in the Jimmy V Classic. Ager had 17 of his 22 points in the second half and Davis scored 14 of his 18 in the final 20 minutes as the Spartans improved to 2-1 this season against teams ranked in the Top Ten.
(10) Florida 87, Providence 77: At Providence, R.I., Taurean Green scored 18 points and made four of the Gators’ nine 3-pointers in the victory over the Friars. Corey Brewer and Al Horford each added 14 points for Florida, which improved to 8-0 and matched the team’s best start since it opened 10-0 in 1951.
(15) Kentucky 73, Georgia State 46: At Atlanta, backup center Shagari Alleyne scored a career-high 16 points and the Wildcats beat the Panthers despite playing without leading scorer Rajon Rondo. The sophomore guard was held out with strep throat.
Indiana State 72, (18) Indiana 67: At Terre Haute, Ind., David Moss and Tyson Schnitker combined for 28 of Indiana State’s 42 second-half points and they led the Sycamores to the come-from-behind upset of the Hoosiers.

California 82, San Diego State 64: At Berkeley, Calif., Leon Powe had 22 points and eight rebounds to lead the Bears (6-1) to their sixth straight win, over the Aztecs (4-3).
Women
Laura Kurz scored 15 points and Alison Bales added 11 to lead No. 2 Duke to a 92-52 victory over TCU at Forth Worth, Texas. Duke (7-0) held the Frogs (2-5) to 25 percent shooting and outscored TCU 56-25 in the second half.
