CV opens GSL with sweep of all-around

Central Valley placed all five in the top five all-around Wednesday and glided to a gymnastics meet win in a Greater Spokane League opener at Lewis and Clark.

Maria Alderman recorded an all-around score of 30.925 to edge out teammate Melissa Hussey’s score of 30.1.

Alderman had a strong showing with a runner-up finish in the bars and third-place finishes in the balance beam and floor exercise.

The Bears finished with a team score of 151.6. Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) was runner-up at 139.375. LC scored 136.2, Rogers 132.575.

Elsewhere, Sarah Miller placed in three events and won the all-around in the process in leading host Shadle Park to a GSL win. Miller finished first in the floor and vault, and runner-up in the bars on her way to an all-around score of 33.925. Mt. Spokane’s Laura Stewart finished more than a point back at 32.25, narrowly edging out the Highlanders’ Stephanie Totman’s score of 32. Shadle finished at 149.375, well ahead of second-place Ferris’ 148.45. Mt. Spokane scored 147.75.

Girls basketball

Kaprina Goodwin scored 34 points to lead Northport (1-2) to a 58-35 road win over the Kettle Falls junior varsity. Kayla Buffan added 12 points.

Boys basketball

Michael Brewer recorded a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds in Sandpoint’s 90-30 non-league win over visiting St. Maries.
