Stoddard leads Lake City past Hawks

Ty Stoddard had a team-high 13 points and added four assists as Lake City beat Lakeland 53-43 in Coeur d’Alene in the Inland Empire League opener for both teams.

Cory Kreighbaum added six points and six rebounds for the Timberwolves (2-2, 1-0).

The Hawks (3-2, 0-1) were led by Phillip Viebrock’s 20 points. Bubba Bartlett added 13.

Kyle Turpin finished with nine points and blocked a late 3-point attempt to ensure a 37-35 non-league win for Post Falls (2-0) over Lakeside (Nine Mile) at Post Falls. Lakeside fell to 1-1.

Girls basketball

Richelle Fenenbock had eight points, six assists and four steals and Brittany Bemis had eight points and nine rebounds as Lake City beat Lakeland in Inland Empire action in Coeur d’Alene. Lakeland (6-2, 1-2) got a combined 33 points from Brigitte Boucher and Bridgitt Bohannon in a win over Lewiston Wednesday night, but the Timberwolves (3-4, 1-2) held the duo to seven points. Riki Moreland added seven points and seven rebounds for Lake City.

Alicia Puckett had 10 points as Timberlake (3-5) scored 31 second-half points en route to a 46-32 non-league win over Lakeside (2-3) at Plummer in a game made up from Dec. 1. … In other non-league matchups, Kandice McArthur scored 15 points and Heather Arnone 14 as Post Falls (4-2) used a 15-0 run to take the lead for good in a 61-42 win over Newport (0-3) at Newport. … Kelli Davis had 14 points and five assists as Pullman (1-1) held off visiting Moscow (1-3) 51-42. Kelly Scott had 20 points for Moscow. … Rayna Allen had 14 points as Clark Fork routed Post Falls Christian 49-17 at Post Falls. The Wampus Cats forced the Eagles into 27 turnovers. … Janelle Kennedy had 17 points as North Idaho Christian beat House of the Lord 28-18 in Hayden Lake.

Washington boys

Brian Hallett had 16 points and Jon Clift added 15 as Ferris beat Cheney 44-36 in non-league action at Cheney. Matt Brunnell led the way for the Blackhawks (1-3) with 13 points and 10 rebounds, but the Saxons (3-0) held Cheney to just 29 percent shooting from the floor. … In other non-league action, Luke Clift had 12 points and Nick Ambrose scored 12 points and added six rebounds and four assists as Central Valley (3-0) beat Rogers (2-2) 62-35 at Central Valley.

Washington girls

Lexi Lallas had 11 points as Ferris (1-2) turned a 1-point halftime deficit into a 23-point romp in a 58-35 win over Cheney in non-league action at Cheney. The Blackhawks (1-2), led by Heather Burke’s 12 points, were up 19-18 at halftime but turned the ball over on their first six possessions in the second half as the Saxons outscored the Blackhawks 40-16 to win going away. … In other non-league action, Heidi Heintz scored 17 of her 23 points in the first half as Central Valley (3-1) cruised past Rogers 73-20 at Central Valley. Rikeya Crossley had 12 to lead the Pirates (0-3).
