WSU’s Trent earns national recognition

Washington State linebacker Greg Trent was named to the 2005 CollegeFootballNews.com Freshman All-America second team, announced Thursday.

A native of Keller, Texas, Trent played in all 11 games this year, starting five. His 69 tackles were second on the team and recorded three tackles for loss, one sack, three pass breakups and a fumble recovery.

Men’s soccer

Gonzaga University forward George Josten has been named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/Adidas Far West All-Regional third team.

Josten, who was an All-West Coast Conference first-team pick this past season as a sophomore, led the WCC in goals with 12 and points with 29.

“After leading Whitworth to the Final Four, senior defender Todd Sabrowski and junior midfielder Ali Seyedali have been named second-team Division III All-Americans by the NSCAA.

Women’s basketball

Washington State announced it has signed Jackie Hill, a 6-foot forward from Eaglecrest High School in Aurora, Colo., to a national letter of intent.

“Leilani Mitchell tied a school record with seven 3-pointers and finished with 30 points and nine assists as Idaho (3-4) set a school record with 14 3-pointers in a 99-70 in non-league win over Utah Valley State (2-5) in Orem, Utah.

“Lindsey Koppen took a pass from Stephanie Jones and hit an 8-foot baseline jumper with 1.2 seconds left to lift the North Idaho Cardinals (8-4, 2-0) to a 57-55 Scenic West Athletic Conference victory over Salt Lake at Christianson Gym.

Men’s basketball

No. 13 North Idaho made 23 of 27 free throws to remain undefeated, improving to 12-0 (2-0 SWAC) with a 67-60 win over Salt Lake at Christianson Gym.
