Church events themed to holiday season

Many area churches are presenting Christmas concerts, plays and more in celebration of the season.

• Coeur d’Alene Bible Church, 5350 N. Fourth St., Coeur d’Alene, is presenting its annual drama “The Season of Nice” Friday at 7 p.m. and next Saturday at 2 and 7 p.m.

The play will follow two brothers who haven’t spoken in more than 16 years. When they each decide to visit a third brother at Christmas without knowing of the other’s plans, they are forced to deal with their problems.

Child care for children up to 3 years old will be available during the evening performances.

• The Singing Nuns of Mount St. Michael are presenting their annual Christmas Evermore concert series, “Christmas at Our House,” at The Met, 901 W. Riverside Ave.

There will be four performances: Monday at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday at 2 and 7:30 p.m. and Wednesday at 2 p.m.

This year’s concerts will include music and traditions that are part of the nuns’ Christmas celebration inside the convent.

Tickets are $22 for adults, $16 for students and seniors, through TicketsWest outlets (325-SEAT, 800-325-SEAT, www.ticketswest.com).

Heritage Congregational Church, 1801 E. 29th Ave., is presenting “A Great and Mighty Wonder,” a concert featuring the church’s chancel choir, during the 10 a.m. worship service Sunday.

Manito United Methodist Church, 3220 S. Grand Blvd., is presenting its chancel choir Sunday at 10:30 a.m.

The choir will sing carols, and Scriptures will be read. For more information, call 747-4755.

• The Whitworth Choir and the Whitworth Women’s Choir will perform “Great Tidings of Joy” today at 3 and 7 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 318 S. Cedar St.

The performances will include music from Gustav Holst and George Handel.

First Covenant Church, 212 S. Division St., is offering “The Next Noel,” a musical performance by the church’s youth group, Sunday at 7 p.m.

Spokane First Church of the Nazarene, 9004 N. Country Homes Blvd., is offering “A Christmas Tale,” a musical dessert theater drama, today at 2 and 7 p.m.

The performance, presented by the worship and fine arts ministries department of the church, will include Black Forest cake, cheesecake and coffee.

• The Anointed Calvary Praise Team and the Voices of Calvary will perform at the Big Easy Concert House, 919 W. Sprague Ave., Sunday at 1:45 p.m.

The concert, which will feature guest vocalist Angela Hunt, will includes a Sunday brunch.

Central Lutheran Church, 512 S. Bernard St., is presenting its Sunday school children’s Christmas program, “A Traditional Christmas Pageant,” Sunday during the 10:30 a.m. worship service.

The church will also present community carol singing and “Gloria” by Vivaldi at 4 p.m. Sunday. The performance will feature the church’s chancel choir and the Eastern Washington University Chorale.

Westminster Congregational United Church of Christ, 411 S. Washington St., is presenting its annual bazaar and craft fair today from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The day will include music, a silent auction and a children’s program at 11 a.m. At 1 p.m., everyone can enjoy a visit from Santa.

Living nativity

Green Bluff Community United Methodist Church, 9908 E. Green Bluff Road, Colbert, is presenting a living nativity next Saturday and Dec. 23 from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

The church will also stage the nativity after its 7 p.m. candlelight and caroling service on Christmas Eve.

Anuak memorial

Hamblen Park Presbyterian Church, 4102 S. Crestline St., will be the location for a memorial service Sunday afternoon.

The service, in remembrance of Anuaks who have died as victims of genocide, will be at 2 p.m.

More than 400 Anuak people died in a massacre in Gambella Town in Ethiopia on Dec. 13, 2003.

Christian singles

Spokane Christian Singles is offering speed dating today at 3 p.m. for those in their 20s, 30s or 40s.

Anyone older than 45 can attend a session Sunday at 11 a.m.

Both events will be at Godfather’s Pizza, 15402 E. Sprague Ave. The cost is $10 for first-time attendees.
