Passenger killed in U.S. 95 crash

A 24-year-old man from Kuna, Idaho, was killed Sunday in a collision on U.S. Highway 95, the Idaho State Police said.

Thomas C. Allen was the passenger in a 1995 Mazda Protégé driven by Jennifer L. Young, 24, also of Kuna.

Young was attempting to pass a southbound van on the highway near Cottonwood, Idaho, about 2 p.m. when she saw oncoming traffic, the ISP said.

She tried to move back into her lane and lost control, the police said.

Young’s car swerved into the path of the oncoming pickup, driven by Timothy A. Heitzman Sr., 52, of Grangeville.

Heitzman’s truck hit the passenger side of Young’s car and went off the east side of the highway and rolled, the police said.

Young’s car continued north and was hit by a southbound car driven by Linda D. Rauch, 45, of Lewiston.

Rauch and her passenger were not injured, the police said.

Heitzman and Young were both injured and taken to the hospital. The hospital and the extent of their injuries were not known late Sunday.

Both lanes of the highway were blocked for about an hour by the accident, the police said.

Ambulance, pickup collide, injuring 3

Three people were injured Sunday in a collision involving an ambulance on U.S. Highway 395 north of Spokane, the Washington State Patrol said.

Timothy J. Ambacher, 42, of Spokane Valley was driving the ambulance south, with lights and sirens on, when he attempted to go through a red light at Hastings Road about 4 p.m., the WSP said.

The ambulance hit a pickup driven by Keith A. Anderson, 45, of Spokane.

Anderson was taken by ambulance to Holy Family Hospital, where he was treated and released, a nursing supervisor said.

Two other cars stopped on Hastings Road were also hit, and one of the drivers, Christopher J. Wood, 45, of Spokane, was also treated and released.

The other driver was not injured.

The passenger in the ambulance, 23-year-old Jeffrey Amich, of Chewelah, was taken to a hospital, the WSP said.

The ambulance driver was not injured.

Collision forces team’s bus into ditch

La Center, Wash. A charter bus carrying an amateur hockey team to a game in Beaverton, Ore., ended up in a ditch after being hit by two other vehicles in an accident Sunday on Interstate 5 about 16 miles north of Vancouver, Wash., the Washington State Patrol said.

One player suffered a minor injury, but no one was hospitalized.

The bus was carrying 19 members of the Puget Sound Tomahawks of the Northern Pacific Hockey League, a junior B level amateur team based in Bremerton, Wash., and its coach.
