Coeur d’Alene uses advantage inside, beats EV

Kama Griffitts scored 14 points, including the go-ahead basket with 23 seconds left as Coeur d’Alene used its size to overpower East Valley 53-50 in a non-league matchup Saturday at East Valley.

Lindsay Stark added 11 points for the Vikings (7-3), who shot 21 of 40 from the floor, including 5 of 11 from 3-point range.

East Valley (4-2), which has no one taller than 5-foot-10, got just 18 rebounds and was led by Elise Olk and Ashley Grater with 11 points each.

In other non-league action, Becky Lowther scored 18 points and Kaitie Poston added 16 as Bonners Ferry (6-3) outlasted Post Falls (5-4) 61-51 at Bonners Ferry. Sean Topp led Post Falls with nine points and nine rebounds. … Amber Enyeart had 10 points and 13 rebounds and hit a pair of big shots in overtime as host Selkirk (3-5) held off Clark Fork (1-5) 51-47 at Ione. Bailey Hewitt led the Wampus Cats with 17 points. … Sam Siron had 14 points, and Elsa Krier had six points, 11 rebounds and six steals as St. Maries (5-3) held off Orofino (4-4) 42-37 at St. Maries.

Maria Barranco scored a game-high 28 points to lead Newport (3-4) to a 62-52 win over Cusick (4-1) in the championship game of the Priest River Tournament. Heather Alkire, who along with Barranco was named to the all-tournament team, finished with 17 points for Newport. Amanda Smith led Cusick with 21 points, while Misty Ostlie added 18 for the Panthers. Both were named to the all-tournament team. … Tabitha Clark finished with 20 points, and Lacey Hopkins added 14 points and 10 rebounds as Priest River (3-5) beat Kettle Falls (1-5) 66-41 in the consolation game of the Priest River Tournament. Clark and Hopkins were both named to the all-tournament team, as was Kettle Falls’ Liz Beardslee, who finished with a game-high 25 points. … Kayla Stiegemeier finished with 22 points, seven steals and four assists as host Lakeland (9-2) pulled out a 53-50 win over Colfax (4-2) at Rathdrum. Jordan Harazin led the way with 12 points for the Bulldogs.

Lisa Carver had game highs in points (12 ) and rebounds (10) as Wallace routed Lakeside (Plummer) in North Star League action at Wallace. Cara Hayman added 11 points, including a perfect 7 for 7 from the free-throw line, for Wallace (9-0, 2-0), which led 35-10 at halftime. Lakeside (3-5, 1-2) was led by the eight points of Wynonna Johnson.

Washington

Kristin Schramm had a game-high 27 points as Chelan knocked off Chewelah (2-2) 65-56 in a non-league matchup in Chewelah. Jochell Schatz led the Cougars with 15 points as Chewelah was held to 25-of-59 shooting from the floor. Chelan was 24 for 47.

Nichole Miller had 23 points and Amanda Grumbach added 13 points as Curlew (5-2, 3-1) cruised past first-place Wellpinit 52-31 in a Panorama League matchup at Curlew. Curlew held the Redskins (5-1, 4-1 North Division) to just 13-of-60 shooting from the field, including 1 of 8 from 3-point range. … Jessee Rouse had 18 points and five assists to lead St. George’s (5-1, 3-0) past St. Michael’s (3-5, 0-4) at St. Michael’s. The Dragons had 12 total steals including five in the fourth quarter that allowed them to pull away. … Chelsi Pakootas had 12 points, and Leah Dick eight points, seven rebounds, four steals and four assists as Inchelium (6-1, 4-1) cruised past Columbia (1-5, 1-3) 53-22 at Inchelium.
