Three Greater Spokane League athletes have earned first-team all-state honors in volleyball and girls soccer.

They were named to teams selected by a statewide panel of sportswriters and coaches.

Mead’s Megan Thigpen was a first-team hitter in 4A volleyball. University forward Tonya Schnibbe, a repeat honoree, and Gonzaga Prep defender Molly Cronin were first-team choices in soccer.

Judy Kight, coach of three-time state champion Mead, is 4A volleyball coach of the year. The team had two honorable mention selections.

Another first-team volleyball selection was Kelli Tikker, a hitter from State 2A third-place Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls). Jennifer Greeny, coach of 2A champion Pullman, was coach of the year and the Greyhounds had two second-team All-State picks.

Colfax, winner of its fourth state title in six years, had two 1A selections. Lauren Mellor was first team and state Most Valuable Player. Abby Bruya was first-team setter and Sue Doering was coach of the year.

In Class B, Jim Greene, who coached Reardan to three state titles in the 1980s, is coach of the year for Pomeroy. First-team B choices included hitter Stacie Shields of Sprague-Harrington and Mallory Mielke of Davenport.

Pullman’s Katie Spangenberg, a midfielder, and Riverside’s Randi Hollen, a defender, were 2A first-team soccer selections.
