Nativity to be displayed at Boise City Hall

Associated Press

BOISE – Officials in Boise say they won’t stop a conservative Christian activist and others from displaying a Nativity scene in front of City Hall on Friday evening.

“We generally open the City Hall plaza to all comers as long as they’re not blocking the entryway,” Michael Zuzel, spokesman for Mayor Dave Bieter.

Brandi Swindell said her plan for the Nativity scene at City Hall was to celebrate the Christmas holiday and also make sure that her rights to practice her religion freely were protected.

“I don’t think (city officials) wanted to go through another battle like they did with the Ten Commandments,” said Swindell, who recently lost an election for a seat on the city council. “They know what we’re capable of. This shows they’re going to be smart about it.”
