UW shoots for Hec of a feat

SEATTLE – The classic look. That’s what Lorenzo Romar loves about his home arena.

The inside has been remodeled, but the exterior of Clarence S. “Hec” Edmundson Pavilion still imparts the venerable vibe of history.

And Romar’s ninth-ranked Washington Huskies will try and add to that history tonight when they take on Lehigh, attempting to win their 800th game at Hec Ed. Washington is now 799-288 at home.

Washington has the most wins of any other school in the country in its current arena. Pennsylvania, which plays at The Palestra, is the only other team with more than 700 wins (729) followed by Duke, Oregon and Minnesota.

“The brilliance of keeping the same look, the same classic look that’s been here since 1927, was great. It just seems like there is some tradition here,” Romar said.

Washington also will try to extend the nation’s longest home-court win streak to 31 in its final tuneup before starting Pac-10 Conference play next week at home against Arizona State and Arizona.

It’s also expected to be the first game action for senior Mike Jensen, who missed the first nine games following surgery on his left shoulder.
