The Spokesman-Review

Four Gonzaga University players scored in double figures Friday afternoon as the Bulldogs took a 68-53 non-conference women’s basketball victory over visiting San Jose State University and ended a four-game losing streak.

The victory also avenged a 69-61 loss in the Bulldogs’ season opener at San Jose.

Gonzaga’s Jami Bjorklund led all players with 17 points, hitting 6 of 8 from the field, including two 3-pointers. Teammate Katy Ridenour finished with 15 points on 5-of-5 shooting, including two 3-pointers.

Stephanie Hawk finished with 10 points while Anne Bailey just missed a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds for Gonzaga.

Lamisha Augustine led San Jose State with 12 points.

Bjorklund and Ridenour both made all four of their shots from the floor in the first half when the Bulldogs constructed a 21-point lead only to see the Spartans close the half with a 9-3 run to trail 39-24 at the break.

Gonzaga hit 61 percent from floor and 71 percent from beyond the 3-point arc in the first half.

Ridenour again got the Bulldogs going in the second half with a 3-pointer with 16:59 left that ended the long drought.

San Jose State closed to within seven points as Myosha Barnes hit a 3-pointer with 4:52 left. Brittany Imaku hit another pair of free throws at 2:05 to trim Gonzaga’s lead to nine points, but San Jose State would get no closer.

Gonzaga finished the game shooting 56 percent from the floor and 60 percent from 3-point range.

The Bulldogs struggled from the free-throw line, hitting only 18 of 37 for 48 percent.
