Lakeside wins on court, but coin flip goes against Knights

Corrina Hendrickx scored 19 points Saturday as Lakeside defeated visiting Clark Fork 48-43 in a North Star League girls basketball season finale at Plummer.

Wynonna Johnson added 12 points for Lakeside.

The victory pulled the Knights (10-8, 7-3) into a tie with idle Kootenai for second place in league. But a postgame coin flip came up for Kootenai, giving the Warriors the No. 2 seed in the district tournament.

Clark Fork (6-10, 4-6), which received a 17-point effort from Tiffany Van Buren, advances to the playoffs as the league’s No. 4 seed.

Wildcats stun Priest River

Kellogg handed Priest River its first league loss of the season, 47-33 at Kellogg. Cami Wendt scored 13 points and dished off four assists to lead the Wildcats (11-9, 4-4), who brought freshman Marisa Bush off the bench to pour in 18 points. The Spartans (11-9, 7-1) got 12 points and 11 rebounds from Calli Turner. … Bonners Ferry 58, St. Maries 46: The Badgers moved a game back of league-leading Priest River with the win at St. Maries. Becky Lowther sank 14 of 18 free-throw attempts and scored 18 points to lead the Badgers (10-8, 6-2). The Lumberjacks (7-12, 3-5) had three starters foul out in the fourth quarter.

Lefors lifts Bears past LC

Jake Lefors scored seven of his 17 points in the fourth quarter, including four in the final 1:40, to lift Moscow past visiting Lake City 56-50 in the Inland Empire League. With Moscow (11-4, 6-4) leading 52-50, Lefors padded the lead with a basket and added two free throws to create the final margin. Jarom Taylor posted 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Timberwolves (9-9, 3-7). … Sandpoint 61, Lewiston 48: Down by three points to start the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs went on a 21-5 run to defeat the visiting Bengals. Blake Mahler and Ben Mitchell each scored 14 points, and Mitchell added 10 rebounds to lead Sandpoint.

Lehman lifts PR into tie with Kellogg

Dustin Lehman scored his only two points of the game with 2 minutes left to secure a 30-27 win for Priest River at Kellogg. The victorious Spartans (10-8, 4-2) got eight points from Jeremy Patterson. The Wildcats (9-8, 4-2) fell into a tie with PR for second place. … Bonners Ferry 69, St. Maries 39: The Badgers hit 28 of 42 field-goal attempts to defeat the host Lumberjacks. Bryan Cossairt scored 11 of his 17 points in the second quarter, when BF (7-11, 5-1) went on a 26-11 run to seize control. Matt Simpson also scored 17 for the Badgers. Matt Nitcy paced the Lumberjacks (5-10, 0-5) with 14.

North Star League

Keener, Norris lead Wallace

Wallace was 12 for 20 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter to secure a 47-35 victory over host Kootenai at Harrison. John Keener and Paul Norris combined for 24 points to lead the Miners (6-10, 5-6). Tony Kraack scored 14 for the Warriors (3-13, 3-6). … Lakeside-Plummer 86, Clark Fork 58: The Knights (17-1, 10-0) shot 52 percent from the field and had five players score in double figures to defeat the visiting Wampus Cats. Tim Wolfe led Lakeside with 27 points and nine steals. Clayton Hewitt paced CF (4-9, 4-5) with 23 points.
